The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced its action plan for COVID-19 vaccination (Q2) for 12 million citizens, including senior citizens over 65, certain patients with chronic conditions, special education teachers, school nurses, and health care professionals.

The action plan, which corresponds to the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination, is a segue from the first phase targeting vulnerable institutions and essential personnel in the field of COVID-19 treatment as well as disease control and prevention (from February to March) into the third phase of vaccination for the general public (starting July). As vaccination for vulnerable institutions come to a close, vaccination for senior citizens over 65, who are more likely to develop serious illnesses upon infection, will be conducted step by step.

Senior citizens over 75 will receive prioritized vaccination starting in the first week of April and those aged between 65 and 74 can be vaccinated starting in June. Considering there are many senior citizens aged over 75 who find it difficult to make a reservation online and move around, the SMG will prepare a safe vaccination system by supporting their advance registration, visits, vaccinations, return home, and post-vaccination monitoring.

Moreover, vaccination will be available to not only patients with chronic conditions and school/care personnel, but also to health care professionals and essential social personnel in the second quarter as well.
