Seoul has been operating a network of overseas reporters since 2008 in an effort to collect accurate information on cities all over the world and the exemplary policies that these cities have adopted.
As of 2013, 71 departments of Seoul Metropolitan Government have used a total of 216 submissions made by the overseas reporters in formulating the city government’s policies.
The overseas reporters whose work has been used in policy-making include ethnic Koreans living in foreign countries, including Korean students, and non-Koreans who have a high interest in the urban administration of Seoul and cities all over the world. At present, a total of 174 overseas reporters are carrying out activities for Seoul in 94 cities of 36 countries.
A number of the reporters produce significantly useful policy proposals based on their experiences in foreign countries. They also serve as PR ambassadors on behalf of Seoul.
In 2014, we plan to increase the number of overseas reporters to about 300.
