Maree Coote’s Alphabeasts will be exhibited at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from Fri, Jun. 4 to Sun, Jul. 4 in celebration of the 60th anniversary of ROK–Australia diplomatic ties.

Alphabeasts is an exhibition featuring works by Australian author and artist Maree Coote that uses the Fontigram typographic device. Coote’s self-developed Fontigram technique composes images of animals, people, and structures through the manipulation of fonts of the alphabet.

Coote uses her Fontigram technique to reinterpret 100 famous figures, animals and townscapes. Fontigram became renowned globally, being acknowledged by the Bologna Ragazzi Award, the most coveted international award in the field of children’s literature and design, and is being recognized as an original art technique.

The exhibition at DDP is free and open to the public, and visitors can see not only 24 original works, but Coote’s debut works as well.

Moreover, the exhibition will offer hands-on participatory programs, such as drawing and painting. On weekends, workshop programs will take place for family visitors with children.
