Buam-dong, Jongno-gu is located in a valley that sits between Bukhansan Mountain and Inwangsan Mountain. Located near the city but occupied by streams and forests, Buam-dong has been popular for its scenic beauty since the Joseon period as mountains can be spotted from anywhere in the area. Buam-dong is also the very place where both nature and culture can be experienced, boasting the filming location for the drama “Coffee Prince” as well as Baeksasil Valley, a natural, ecological area where cultural history and the natural environment exist in fine harmony. The neighborhood is also home to Seoul’s first public hanok library, the Cheongun Public Literature Library, Hill of Poet Yundongju where a stone engraved with the poet’s writing stands, and Changuimun Gate, one of the only remaining Four Lesser Gates constructed during the Joseon period, making it a suitable place of which to take a one-day tour. A walk along the curving, uphill streets and narrow alleyways of Buam-dong offer visitors a feeling of unique tranquility.
