Bongwonsa Temple was built in the year 889 as a thousand-year-old temple located at Ansan Mountain in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. In the precincts of the temple is the pagoda tree of 500 years that has been designated a Seoul’s protected tree and behind the temple stands the Gwaneumbawi Rock. A representative feature of Bongwonsa Temple is the lotus. The lotuses have dwelled around the temple for long periods to create a unique atmosphere. The ‘Seoul Lotus Flower Cultural Festival’ is held every summer at Bongwonsa Temple for residents to enjoy.
