    SOUL; SEOUL Promotional Program With “History” The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is collaborating with the global TV network “History” to air a promotional program called SOUL; SEOUL that aims to convey Seoul's touristic and beauty-based appeal to international viewers. The program will feature two travel commentators; Karina from the K-pop idol group Aespa and actor David Lee McInnis, who acted in famous dramas Descendants of the Sun and Mr. Sunshine, to show the charms of Seoul to viewers. The program will span four episodes under the theme “Soul; Seoul,” and will introduce some of Seoul’s major tourist attractions. In the first and second episodes, Karina from Aespa—a K-pop group loved by Millennials and Gen Z—will introduce the dynamic and trendy spots in Seoul by visiting places such as Changgyeonggung Palace, the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, a nail shop in Garosu-gil, and Dongdaemun Design Plaza. In the third and fourth episodes, popular Korean-American actor David Lee McInnis will introduce various foods that Seoul has to offer while also visiting tourist attractions that give relaxation and traditional cultural heritage sites. SOUL; SEOUL will premiere on Sat, Oct. 30 in Korea, and be broadcasted to a total of 39.5 million households in Japan and 17 Southeast Asian countries on the History channel.

    Seoul introduces new trend of tourism ahead of era coexisting with COVID-19 The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) are holding Seoul International Travel Mart (SITM) 2021 from Tue, Oct. 6 to Fri, Nov. 5 to restore the domestic and international tourism industry networks and occupy the tourism market in the era coexisting with COVID-19. SITM began in 2015 and is celebrating its 7th year this year. The SMG invites more than 100 international buyers every year to help domestic tourism SMEs discover new international sales channels that would be difficult to find on their own. Especially this year is going to be integrated with Seoul International Travel Mart for Medical Tourism (SITMMT) to actively promote the emerging “new normal” tourism trends, such as beauty, medical and wellness, which will lead the future of Seoul tourism, and offer a wide range of business and tourism industry promotion opportunities. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony to deliver a message of consolation and hope to those in the domestic and international travel industry going through rough times due to the pandemic. All of the offline programs other than the opening ceremony were held, but without spectators to prevent the spread of COVID-19. WeGO General Assembly In Celebration of 10th Anniversary The 5th General Assembly (Seoul General Assembly) of World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO; World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments), the first and largest international consultation chain for smart cities of which establishment was led by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), was held online and offline at 3 PM on Mon, Oct. 18 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The WeGO is the first international public-private partnership (PPP) body for smart cities of which establishment was led by the SMG in order to promote the smart city-related cooperation and exchange sustainable development of cities and businesses across the world. Approximately 150 attendants including representatives of 50 cities as well as international organizations and information and communications technology companies participated in the General Assembly held under the theme of “New Normal with Smart Sustainable Solutions for All.” Organized in celebration of WeGo’s 10th anniversary, the general assembly began with an opening speech by WeGO Chairperson and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, followed by a 10th anniversary commemorative event, WeGO Sustainable Cities Awards ceremony, the general assembly to discuss the plans for WeGO operation, and a range of programs including those for the promotion of cities and IT companies. SMFCC 2021 For International Alliance The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) arranged an opportunity to discuss practical efforts to actively respond to climate change with international cities with their roles seeking sustainable development and their post-pandemic response to climate change become increasingly crucial. The SMG held the Seoul Mayors’ Forum on Climate Change (SMFCC) online for two days from Tue, Oct. 26 to Wed, Oct. 27 to garner international cooperation on taking actions regarding climate through low-carbon emission development. A total of 15 cities from 14 countries leading climate action to promote carbon neutrality and low-carbon sustainable development participated in this forum and shared their best practices to reduce carbon emissions in their respective cities. Moreover, about 10 domestic and international organizations including international consulting organizations for sustainable development and climate action for cities, and climate financial institutions participated and discussed effective solutions for climate change.
