homepage previous newsletter Vaccination Plan for the 3rd Quarter The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will complete 1st dose vaccination for 6.7 million—70% of Seoul citizens—by the end of September by adding 4 million more vaccinations in the 3rd quarter. Vaccination for those who book reservations in June will be carried out in the first week of July, and the full attendance of schoolchildren in the second semester will be supported through the vaccination of workers in the fields of education and childcare. The middle-aged (ages 50 to 59) will be vaccinated first in July and August considering the risks, such as the rate of serious cases, and those aged under 49 will be vaccinated in August through reservation. A customized plan will be established for those in blind spots who find it difficult to make a reservation or pay a visit for vaccination, including the elderly and persons with disabilities staying at home, persons with developmental disabilities, and the homeless. Multilanguage service for the vaccination certificate will be available in 20 languages, starting with English in July, followed by Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, and more. Support Vaccinated Persons’ Recovery Back to Daily Life In the midst of full-fledged COVID-19 vaccination, the government has decided to provide incentives to those who have been vaccinated. Disease control and prevention measures will be gradually eased through three phases in June, July and October sequentially to support vaccinated persons’ recovery back to their daily life as well as encourage people to be vaccinated. First, starting in June, those who have received 1st dose vaccination will be exempted from the capacity limit for family gatherings (up to 8), and be provided with various benefits, including discounted admission fees for national parks, museums and art museums. Starting in July, those who have received 2nd dose vaccination will not have to wear a mask outdoors and freely participate in small meetings as they will be exempted from the capacity limit for private meetings. Starting in October, when over 70% of all Korean population will have received 1st dose vaccination, social distancing measures will be re-discussed comprehensively considering the immunization rate and disinfection conditions. Recovery of Seoul Citizens' Economic Sentiment to the Level before COVID-19 The consumer confidence index marked over 90 for the first time after the outbreak of COVID-19. An indication of over 100 means that consumers are optimistic about the economic and expenditure vision, and the contrary if below 100. According to the survey on the “actual economic sentiment of Seoul consumers and the economic policies they want from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in the second quarter” conducted by the Seoul Institute, the consumer confidence index recorded 92.9 in the second quarter of 2021, which is increased by 3.9 points compared to the previous quarter, recovered to the level before the outbreak of COVID-19. Although there are concerns about the rise of the consumer price and the interest rate as well as the spread of COVID-19 mutant virus, it is expected that the consumer confidence index will continue to gently increase with the further distribution of vaccination and the central government's radical policies for stimulating consumption and boosting domestic demand in the second half of the year.
