In the past, the day of kimjang, or kimchi-making, was a day of festivities. Kimjang became globalized and was registered as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, thus kimchi became a representation of well-being food that is loved by people all over the world. Seoul held its first Kimchi Festival in 2014, and since then, realized kimchi-making as a cultural festival to contribute to the growth of the succeeding traditional Korean culture into a global festival that represents Seoul. This year’s Seoul Kimchi Festival attracted five thousand participants to collaboratively make kimchi at Seoul Kimjanggan, and also prepared various programs including Kimchi Market and 100 Kimchi Varieties for visitors to experience and taste.
