Korea uses both the solar and lunar calendars. The lunar calendar follows the moon’s cycles. Korean New Years Day is called Sinjeong on the solar calendar, and Gujeong on the lunar calendar. In addition, most people celebrate the Lunar New Year. Also, Koreans can choose which birthday they would like to celebrate, according to either the solar or lunar calendar.
